Katie was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. She has spent more than a decade working with underserved youth, primarily in North and South Omaha. Most recently, Katie worked as a middle school teacher at Success Academy Charter School in Harlem, NYC, one of the highest performing charter school networks in the nation. Her other classroom experience includes teaching English to middle school students in Changwon, South Korea, and as a kindergarten lead at Girls Inc. in North Omaha.
Prior to teaching at Success, Katie worked as a legislative aide for the Vice Chair of the Education Committee and former President of the State Board of Education, Senator Jim Scheer of Norfolk. Additional political experience includes working as the communications director for a U.S. Senate campaign and as the campaign manager for a successful Nebraska Board of Regents race.
Katie earned her bachelor’s degree from Loyola University New Orleans and her law degree from the University of Nebraska College of Law, with a joint focus in law and education policy.
